“I want you to know I’m smart in my head.”

Asaf, communicating for the first time through typing after 24 years of silence

Presuming competence changes everything.

Everything changed when communication began

For years, we mistook silence for absence.

Asaf was diagnosed with autism and intellectual disability, and we believed he understood the world like a toddler.

When he began to communicate through typing, everything changed.

His words revealed a deep inner world, and how much we misunderstand when we judge ability by speech.

Presuming competence can change lives.

What I Do

Writing

I share stories and reflections that open a window into a world too often misunderstood.

Through writing, I continue the conversation beyond the stage.

Talks

I deliver talks that challenge assumptions and change how people understand communication,
autism, and human potential.

My goal is simple: to shift the way people see, think, and respond.

I speak to students, universities, professionals, therapists, doctors, and anyone working with
non-speaking autistic individuals.

Photography

Through photography, I capture moments of perspective and quiet meaning.

It is another way of seeing - and expressing life differently

Hi, I’m Abigail.

I’m a speaker and advocate for presuming competence.

Through my work, I challenge the way we understand communication, intelligence, and human potential - and help audiences see what becomes possible when we presume competence.

Seeing differently expressing life differently

Photography is where I capture beauty in the world around me.
In those moments, it fills my battery in an instant and gives me strength for whatever the day may bring.
I love sharing that beauty with others, in the hope of brightening their day.

A selection of my work is available to view, and some pieces are also available for purchase.

Reflections from audiences

Abigail’s talk completely changed how our team thinks about communication and ability. It challenged assumptions we didn’t even realize we had.
